The 3* Open Faces Freeride Contest in Kappl took place under perfect conditions after being postponed due to weather. Bright sunshine and powder snow provided a fair and high-level competition on the Ablittkopf face. The venue, already proven during the Junior World Championships, impressed with playful and varied terrain, natural features, wind lips for tricks, and several demanding cliffs.
The overall performance level was exceptionally high. In the Ski Men category, a new points record was set: 19-year-old Tyrolean Simon Zwischenbrugger claimed victory with a spectacular run, scoring an incredible 98 out of 100 points. Federico De Michiel (ITA) and Jonathan Hauss (AUT) completed the podium.
In the Ski Women category, Lucinda Laird (AUS) took the win with a controlled and stylish run. Czech riders Wanda Svancer and Monika Novakova finished in second and third place. The level was also very strong here, with the winner scoring 85 points.
In the snowboard categories, Mia Grempel (GER) won the women’s competition, while Daniel Nufer (SUI) claimed victory among the men. Overall, Kappl once again lived up to its reputation as an international top spot for freeride competitions.
